It all started on the 28th June 1969 in New York at the Stonewall Inn. Today, the end of June is the one of the busiest Pride seasons with parties and marches across London, New York, Berlin, Dublin and Paris. Take a look at the Top 5 Worlds busiest gay pride events below.
5. Madrid (2012) 1.2 Million
Considered one of the best Pride events in Europe, Madrid is a power horse for numbers! Located in the cities gay district Chueca.
4. Toronto (2014) 1.2 Million
Pride week is a ten day event in Canada's Toronto during the end of June. In 2014, Toronto hosted WorldPride bolstering the attendee's to over 1million people with the theme 'Rise Up'.
3. Cologne (2002) 1.4 Million
As well as hosting it's own Gay Pride Parade (called Christopher Street Day Cologne), in 2002 Cologne hosted the then busiest Europride.
2. Madrid (2007) 2.3 Million
Madrid's Europride of 2007 was the most well attended ever, with an estimated 2.3 million visitors. Europride, inaugurated in London in 1992, is hosted by different European Cities each year. Riga (Latvia) is the host for 2015.
1. Sao Paulo (2006) 2.9 Million
Since 1997, the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil host what is considered by the Guinness Book of Records the largest pride parade in the World! The march is the events main activity extending up to 2.6 miles long.
